New Message From President Doug Beaven
It’s great fun watching the Democratic Club grow and grow until we have come to the point where we’re searching for larger meeting places! So many of you deserve a round of applause for our great success in establishing our important group! But, growing our Club is not quite where the rubber meets the road! It’s a great and necessary start—and well begun is half done—but we have a lot more to do! We must take upon ourselves the task of waging war on apathy and on the attitude of so many who are unhappy with the status quo, yet, for some reason, never seem to get out to vote.
One does not have to be a Democrat in Flagler County to be disappointed, even ashamed, at the voter turnout in recent elections. Our national democracy is something we all cherish, yet so few exercise their blessings of the freedom to vote. For some minorities, the path to the voter’s booth is strewn with the bodies of some very good people. In our wars, even today, we are sending our finest and bravest to protect that ultimate right of fair and open elections.
Is this the way to remember those who paid the ultimate price? Is this the way to remember those who are giving so much in the world today in the defense of liberty? As someone who wears a soldiers uniform, its bothersome to know that so many cannot be bothered with educating themselves on the candidates & issues and voting or even simply, to register or vote. This is the message we must take to our neighbors, to the people around the block, to every corner of our community!
I ask your help, as President of the Flagler County Democratic Club, to speak with your friends and neighbors. At the post office, the library, the county services building, pick up a couple of those mail-in registration forms and ask your friends if they are registered voters. Let us, together, get people to the polls, get people to vote and to vote for Democratic Party candidates! Let us resolve to never again be embarrassed by such a tiny turnout on Election Day!
Above all, support our party by urging them to vote for the Democratic candidates. Urge them to attend our meetings on the final Tuesday evening of each month. Urge them to volunteer for the Democratic Executive Committee. Urge them to think about becoming block captains. Urge them to become precinct captains.
If we sit on the sidelines, we’ll get what we deserve! Let’s get Kick'n!
